One of the main reasons water polo teams choose Cyprus is the sheer density of Olympic-size pools on such a small island. Five open-air 50m pools mean short transfers, reliable pool time, and warm water in every season — a rare combination in Europe. Here is what visiting teams can expect from the main water polo venues, how they differ, and how they slot into a full water polo training camp in Cyprus.
Limassol 50m Olympic Pool
The Limassol venue is a 50m x 25m Olympic pool heated to 27–28°C year-round, with water polo equipment on site (caps, balls, and goals), full changing rooms, toilets and showers, and 600 covered seats for spectators. It suits everything from daily training to friendly games and tournaments. Limassol's central position on the south coast, and its wide choice of hotels and restaurants, make it an easy and popular base for a coastal camp with plenty to do on rest days.
Larnaca 50m Olympic Pool
Larnaca offers a similar 50m x 25m Olympic pool, also heated to 27–28°C and fully equipped for water polo, with 600 covered seats. Its biggest advantage is proximity to Larnaca International Airport: teams flying in can be poolside within a short transfer, which makes Larnaca ideal for a shorter, sharply focused camp where every training day counts.
Geroskipou 50m Olympic Pool (Paphos)
The Geroskipou pool in Paphos is a 50m x 25m open-air pool heated to 26–27°C almost year-round, and it comes with the most complete surrounding facilities of the three. Alongside the pool you get a light-equipped gym, a physiotherapy and recreational room, changing rooms and locker rooms, and 700 covered seats. Best of all, it sits about five minutes' walk from the beachfront and nearby accommodation, so training, recovery, meals, and downtime can all happen within walking distance — a genuine advantage for youth groups and for camps that value simple logistics.
What every venue provides
Across all our partner pools you can count on the same essentials: true Olympic-size 50m water, year-round heating, on-site water polo equipment, proper changing facilities, and covered spectator seating for friendlies and tournaments. If your squad has specific setup needs — particular session times, exclusive water, or extra equipment — we confirm them with the pool operator before you arrive, so your very first session runs exactly as planned.
Recovery, gym, and support facilities
Modern camps are about more than lane time. Between sessions, teams make use of gym space for strength work, physiotherapy for treatment and prevention, and recovery areas to keep players fresh across a demanding week. Where a venue does not have a facility on site, we arrange access nearby, so your recovery routine is never an afterthought.
Choosing the right pool for your team
The best venue depends on your priorities. Choose Larnaca for the quickest arrival and a short, efficient camp; Limassol for a central base with the widest choice of accommodation and downtime; and Geroskipou for an all-in-one setup with training, recovery, and the beach in one place. Whichever you pick, you are never far from the sea or from the next pool.
Beyond the pool: beach water polo
In summer, Cyprus also hosts beach water polo, a faster, sun-soaked format that has grown into an annual festival. If you are travelling in the warmer months, it is worth building a beach session into your trip — read our beach water polo in Cyprus guide for what to expect.
